ATORI
Human
APPEARANCE Standing at an average height of five foot seven, Atori tries to make his presence known through his looks and physical demeanor. He sports chin length purple hair, the color being a familial trend, that feels like smooth yet slightly oily to the touch. His eyes are also a purple hue which most assume is a mutation of the eye although he believes it's a sign from Yevon. His facial structure almost looks like an upside-down triangle or a heart with his cheeks being round with a large pointy nose in the middle of the face and having a very sharp, jarring chin. His front teeth are a bit larger than the others, so Atori likes to keep his mouth closed at all times out of his insecurity towards them. Atori loves to dress the part. Although for traveling purposes he wears a simple white robe, he always has a special ceremonial rob he received when becoming a summoner-apprentice stashed in case something big comes up such as a Sending or a new temple at which to pray. His rods are usually wooden and practical looking usually although he wants a large ornamental one. As far as footwear goes, Atori prefers to be barefoot at he walks along; he believes it gives him a closer connection to the earth of Spira. His frame makes it so that all his clothes appear baggy on him, but he attempts to walk with as much pose and grace as he can muster. PERSONALITY Ever since he was little, Atori has been a people-pleaser. He doesn't like to let anyone down, and tends to preform better when doing something for someone else rather than for his own goals. In this respect, he also is a sociable person and enjoys getting to know new people everywhere he goes in hopes of making allies and friends. Although his intentions are good, sometimes Atori tries too hard to impress and make friends that he comes across as superficial. If things are going to well, Atori can sometimes become arrogant in his own abilities and believe that nothing can bring him down. His empathy can lead him to being easily manipulated. He also has a huge curiosity that can't be tamed without exploring the place or subject thoroughly. Although he was born into a Yevon following family, after his summoner apprentice training, he has become much more devout. He is very unwary when dealing with Al-Bhed more so for their use of forbidden Machina than anything else. He believes they can be converted from their ways with enough patience and determination. When learning new things, Atori is hands-on and although the theoretical knowledge helps, it's the practical that actually teaches him. Atori is non-competitive and doesn't really understand why summoners can't help one another out instead of being rivals because the common goal should be to destroy Sin and not to obtain the fame of becoming High Summoner. Although he is very inexperienced in battle, the training he has done has shown him to be a very defensive fighter. He makes sure to constantly check on the vitals of teammates. He believes that knowing how a fiend or opponent attacks is the best way of fending them off. He can be overzealous with his help and easily leave himself fatigued or an open target for attack. Atori is not afraid to give someone or something a good whack with his rod if it comes down to it. He is still a little shaky with his summoning, but he hopes to be call on his aeons with ease in the future. HISTORY Atori was born during the championship blitzball game in Luca to Hazura and Lilith, who was rushed out of the stadium when she began to go into labor. Hazura and Lilith were both practicing black mages who would rent out their services for a small fee. Lilith was also able to practice the art of apothecary and made a side income by selling her potions and ethers outside of the blitzball stadium. Atori was the only child of the two and as such was expected to follow in the family tradition of performing the black arts to maintain a living. In the meantime, Lilith taught him some of the easier parts of apothecary. However, as time passed the boy gave no sign of the ability to perform magic in him at all. It wasn't until one day when he was around eight years of age that Atori's pet cat Isora had been bit by the dog next door that Lilith found her son crying over the animal. She was about to tell him that they would just take it to a medic when the cat's wound healed up and Atori passed out. Although not what they had originally planned for their son, over the following years Hazura and Lilith did what they could to teach some white magic to their child. However, Atori didn't seem able to produce the same amount of power he had when trying to save his beloved cat. After exhausting all possible avenues to try to help their son, the couple told him about the temple in Besaid that would be able to help him learn more about his innate abilities. He felt like he was being disowned from the family, but finally agreed to it after his parent's emphatic response that they only wanted the best for him. So at age twelve, Atori traveled to Besaid with his parents where he was brought on as an apprentice to an elderly temple priest who could use all the help he could get. The first two years were mainly helping the old priest with his work. Fetch a book here, go talk to a villager, and write this were all normal daily occurrences. It wasn't until the priest passed on to the Farplain that Atori was mentored who saw the gift of white magics in him. His magics began to take form under his new mentor, Shabun, and as such the two began to form a special bond like an uncle and nephew would have. The priest also helped Atori become more in tune with the teachings of Yevon and explained why Sin was and how he could be stopped. Around his seventh year there, his mentor sent him on an errand to Kilika to deliver some tomes and teaching of Yevon to that temple. The journey was fine and he even learned a few tricks some of the priests in Kilika had to teach. As soon as he was back, Atori went looking for Shabun. After asking around, he found out that Shabun and a crusader had gone looking for some children that had wondered off into the forest alone but that had been hours ago. Asking another crusader to join him, the two walked the entire length of the forest before coming across a scene from a nightmare. The crusader was dead and Shabun was in bad shape. As Atori checked on the wounded and the dead, the crusader found the children hiding in a bush and learned from them that they had been playing on the beach when Sinspawn had come flying in from the ocean. Shabun and the crusader had protected the children, but one of the spawn was able to land a devastating blow upon the rescuers. Atori and his Crusader helped carry the body and Shabun back to the village as the children tagged along. It was then that Atori saw his first real Sending for the Crusader, and he was deeply moved by it. Shabun had been healed back to some health, but had lost the use of his legs. Amidst the madness roaming in his mind, Atori could only think of one thing. When things began to return to normal, Atori made his intention of becoming a summoner-apprentice known to Shabun. Shabun then talked to the elder priests who worried that coming from a family of black mages might mar the young man from being pure enough for the sacred task, but Shabun insisted and finally Atori was allowed to begin his apprenticeship. Four years passed and in that time Atori absorbed all he cold from the elder priests of the temple. They even had some of their neighbors in Kilika come teach what they could. The fortnight before he was to enter the Cloister of Trials, Shabun and the other priests tried to find him a Guardian to undergo the task with, but to no avail. Most of the townspeople like the elder priest believed that his lineage would keep the fayth from answering his prayers. On the eve before the descent, Shabun gave Atori a plain wooden rod that Shabun had used before becoming paralyzed. When the time finally came for Atori to descend, he was guardianless but still determined and into the Cloister he plunged. Although it didn't take him too long to find the Chamber of the Fayth, it was here that Atori began to have difficulties. He prayed and prayed to the fayth for the power to defeat Sin, but to no avail. He began doubting himself and thought maybe everyone had been right about him all along. He then realized that his parents weren't bad people they had just been differently gifted. As he prayed for the power to overcome the prejudices and to make Shabun and all of Spira safe from Sin, the fayth finally came to him after a long thirty-two hours. He promptly passed out, but at least now he knew he could possibly bring happiness to the world. ROLEPLAY SAMPLE Today was finally the day. He had finally become a summoner, and the joy inside him could hardly be contained. He shot up out of the medic's bed he had been brought to after have been found in the Cloister. The medic on duty tried to stop him, but Atori slid right around him and out the door and ran through the temple past the astonished faces of the priests into the open air of Besaid. Waiting out there was a sizable amount of people crowded around his mentor, Shabun, all asking the man if he knew anything about how the trials had gone. The noise dropped off when Atori came bounding forward towards the group and his teacher. He couldn't believe that anyone had come to see how he was doing let alone to see if he had passed his trial. As he watched their eyes on him, his smile grew even brighter as the thought of protecting all these people from Sin came to mind. It wasn't until the staring got to be intense that he realized that none of them knew whether he was successful or not. Opening his mouth and looking at Shabun more so than anyone else he spoke, "I've done it. I've become a Summoner. The fayth granted me her blessing." Instantly a murmuring began among the crowd which slowly lead to cheers and applause. From the crowd a young girl approached, and Atori knelt down to her eye level. He was carefully examined by her looks of both awe and confusion. After what seemed like an eternity of this girl staring she asked, "Can you show us?" With that some others came running forward to ask for a demonstration of the aeon. The parents came to take their children back with apologetic words, but Atori just waved them all off. He could see the question burning in their eyes as well. "It's not a problem at all," he responded to the crowd bringing his wooden rod towards the ground in front of him. With resolve he thrust his rod in the air in front of him and began the summoning for the onlookers. When he was done, he looked up to the sky expectantly waiting for Valefor to swoop down from the heaves. What he saw was nothing. As the seconds crept by, he could hear the whispering starting from the crowd. Maybe he hadn't become a summoner after all. He might have just dreamed the fayth had come to him while he was unconscious after attempting the Trials. Fear began to build as did the crowds noise until he remembered that he had not invoked the aeons name in prayer. He repeated the dance but this time prayed for Valefor to appear, and as the crowd began to turn away a screech came from the heavens. Atori's heart leaped from his body at the sight of the creature flying down to him. The crowd gasped as the magnificent bird landed next to him. Atori reached out hand as if to pet it and waited for the aeon to accept his offer. The bird hesitantly accepted and Atori finally felt that this was truly the path for him. He beamed a smile on the crowd, on Shabun, and on Valefor before dismissing the aeon. he had done it; he was a summoner. ABILITIES Pray: can heal minor wounds of multiple targets. Cooldown: once per post. Cure: Can mend minor bone injuries and deep wounds. Cure uses a lot of the casters strength to successfully cast. Cooldown: 3 posts. Esuna: Cures illnesses like poison, confusion, silence and paralysis, if ailment has been long-going Esuna will not cure them. Cooldown: 2 posts. Vigor: Restores some HP to the caster, not very much. Vigor can be cast more quickly than cure and does not deplete a casters stamina. Cooldown: once per post. Ruin: Ruin is a defensive ability. It sends a blast of holy light towards an enemy. Ruin is by no means a strong spell. It does minimal damage but comes in handy when dealing with enemies. Cooldown: once per post. SUMMON LIST VALEFOR: Valefor's fayth, a teenage girl, is located within the temple of Besaid. Being an aerial aeon, Valefor easily dodges many attacks from the ground. Valefor's regular attack is a quick, snatching motion, enhanced by her high accuracy. An interesting passive ability Valefor possesses is that she is considered "Out of Range", meaning grounded foes with no damaging long-range attacks or magic cannot even make a move and are simply helpless against her. There are symbols of the Yevon script that are associated with a particular aeon. The symbol for Valefor and Besaid is annotated with the kanji for nothing (無, mu?). Emptiness, mu, is a Zen Buddhist concept expressing negation of the self, selflessness, innocence and purity of soul. These are traits a summoner must achieve to succeed in defeating Sin. Buddhist concept of nothingness may also be associated with the element of air. Valefor is a flying aeon whose main attack is non-elemental and delays the opponent's turn, traits that also fit this theme. ATTACK LIST Sonic Wings: sends a shock wave at an enemy. Because of the short recovery time Valefor can often hit enemies repeatedly with Sonic Wings with little or no retaliation. Energy Ray: this is Valefor's overdrive. Fires a super-charged beam that explodes underneath the foes and deals non-elemental damage. This attack, as an overdrive, is very powerful as far as Valefor goes. Please note that, as an Aeon, Valefor isn't the most powerful. Matter-of-fact she's the weakest available. INVENTORY POTION X3 ANTIDOTE X1 SOFT X1 ECHO SCREEN X1 EYE DROPS X1 HOLY WATER X1 |
