| “Right,” she replied before he started to walk off. The only healer she knew was Lezard and they did not know each other. They simply had the unfortunate circumstance of bumping into one another. They also battled together but that didn’t mean they would be friends and he was looking to watching after her. She shrugged it all off as he walked away and she stood there still.
”Con-“
”Do not call me that,” she quickly silenced the Crusader that was coming back towards her. She stared at him with a rather resentful look as he placed a hand on her shoulder and thanked her help. Closing her eyes, she shifted her shoulder away from him and started to walk past him.
“I came to your aid like usual when we are in the same city. If you would stop making it a habit of nearly dying, I would not have to be bothered and live my life much happier.”
The man brushed her answer off as she walked beside her with a smirk. “But then I couldn’t see you. You’ve grown an inch, haven’t you?” he guessed as he admired her form then smiled. “You’re looking more like your mother now.”
“Stop with the useless babbling and tell me what you want. I am not in the mood for your prattling,” she hissed as they walked past the slow moving Summoner. Her father sighed as he explained that her aunt had fallen ill and he simply wished for her to accompany him to Besaid because doctors suggested she wouldn’t have long to live. Cross stopped and looked at him then frowned. “No.” The man stood there in shook and started to remind her how she liked her aunt and he would be there with her if she needed a shoulder to cry upon.
“That is not the reason I do not wish to go and you know it.”
“You’re still… scared?”
”And you’re still an idiot.”
”Do you want me to hold your hand?”
”I would rather hold his hand than relay on you,” she said pointing on Lezard. ”I have no intentions of heading to Besaid or dealing with you any longer. Good day!”
The pink haired woman stormed off as she headed back for her house. She was going to have to go to Besaid if her aunt was truly dying but she didn’t want to go to Besaid. Her eyes closed; this was a trying week.

| As they drew near the exit of the forest, Lezard pulled ahead after their conversation and Cross seemed to hang back some to have a conversation with one of the Crusaders. Lezard minded his own business much like he did and he continued trekking along; albeit not too quickly so he wouldn’t pull so far ahead that he would get into trouble with a fiend and no one around to help. He imagined that Cross and the crusaders needed to go over something regarding the Sinspawn. At least, that was what seemed logical until the two passed him by and the crusader the Black Mage was speaking to mentioned Besaid Island and an aunt.
He lifted his gaze up to stare at their backs for a few moments as his brain registered the newfound information. Was the crusader a relative of Cross’s? It seemed to be the case based on what little he was picking up and when Cross pointed at him he glanced back down to the ground. The conversation between mage and crusader finished and Lezard picked up the pace a little bit and passed the older male. He gave a brief sideways glance at the man as he passed before he moved to catch up with Cross. He fell in step with her shortly after, ”Uh... everything okay?” He questioned a bit awkwardly. He didn’t intend to pry on their conversation but they weren’t exactly whispering to one another either.
If he had the courage to do so, he would have cracked a joke by offering his hand for her to hold but he was far too timid for that. Even if he wasn’t that timid, he wasn’t at all certain that he would given the fact that she seemed more angry than upset over the conversation and would likely not take the joke too lightly. ”I’m not sure what different it makes, but if you want to, you can travel to Besaid with me. After the events of today, I’ll be leaving tomorrow. This isn’t me asking you to be a Guardian. Just… conveniently headed in the same direction.” He didn’t exactly know what was going on; but he gathered that she didn’t want to head to Besaid; likely more to due with the fact she didn’t’ want to travel with the crusader more than anything else; at least, that’s what he gathered from the snippets he picked up on.

| Lezard came over to ask her how she was but the engaged pink haired woman kept walking. She didn’t want to comment on how she felt or what she was talking about a moment ago. Cross was going to have to go to Besaid and there was only one way to the island from here. It was a very painful, unhappy thing; she hated being on a boat because they sailed over the ocean she detested the ocean.
The woman didn’t answer and she didn’t slow her pace. Lezard still kept up as they walked over the bridge back into town. He offered to travel with her to Besaid as a companion rather than as Summoner and Guardian and she finally stopped and stared at him wide eyed. “You overhead him?!” They weren’t whispering so anyone could overhead the conversation. Cross grumbled to herself before she started walking again.
She didn’t need sympathy from the likes of him! Though, he wasn’t particularly offering it since he was simply suggesting they travel on the same boat. They were going to the same place and it wasn’t like declining his offer would change that fact. On top of that, if her aunt was truly on her death bed, the black mage would be seeking him out eventually. Cross sighed heavily as she shook her head.
“We can travel together; you are headed to the same place so it is all coincidental.”
She stopped as she folded her arms and looked away. There was a problem with this arrangement – she would be on a boat. Lezard had no idea how completely irrational she got on boats. “I have a favor to request. Can you acquire me a sleep pin before we set off tomorrow? It will be quite vital for me,” she muttered looking away from him. She had to prepare for tomorrow but something told no matter what spell she attempted on herself it wouldn’t cure her and she would be quite unreliable. The best thing was to have a backup plan.
“Please?”

| She seemed none too happy about the fact that he had overheard the conversation; ”Uh… bits and pieces.” Like how she would rather hold his hand than the crusader’s. He didn’t really take that statement to count to anything more than he was more tolerable than the other male so he didn’t let it go to his head. He wasn’t sure if she was upset that he heard or upset that she had actually spoken so loudly that he could hear the conversation. Either way, he didn’t feel it was his fault. When he offered to have them travel together to Besaid, he had expected her to flat out turn him down and state she wasn’t going to go to Besaid or that she would go on her own. It was kind of surprising to have her accept the offer but he kept any physical reaction he felt toward her decision from his face.
”Alright. Then I will see you tomorrow.” He would head to the temple, find refuge there for the night, and pray to the Yevon and the Fayth for a safe voyage. He would go to Besaid tomorrow, complete the trials, and from there he would… head to the next temple. He wanted to say he could conquer Bevelle afterwards but it had been such a horrible trial that he knew he needed more time before he completed that one. Perhaps it would be last; if not, it would be close to it. He had a long journey ahead of him. He started to walk away, to give Cross her space when she started to ask him for a favor. He lifted a brow lightly at her strange request but decided not to question it. ”…I’ll see what I can do.” She needed something to help her sleep on the boat. He assumed she got seasick. He’s sure Bevelle had something that would help; or at the very least he could find some sleeping powder. He wasn’t sure if he had enough money but it was worth a look. He’ll take care of that after he looked at when the first boat was leaving tomorrow. It was going to be a long voyage.
