AMTAL
al bhed
APPEARANCE Many people typically double take when they see this Al Bhed walking down the street. Her hair is an unnatural color, the dye made from tinkering with different natural elements and her knowledge of creating concoctions. Her natural hair color is blonde, though she dyes it a bright pink. Sometimes this pink fades into a pastel color until she dyes it again. It has been many years since she's cut it, though you wouldn't be able to tell since she likes to keep it up in a pair of buns. On the off ocassion that she does let it down, it reaches her lower back. Like all Al Bhed, her eyes are green with blue swirls. Her green seems to be a bit more vibrant, especially in the sunlight. Speaking of sunlight, she likes to spend a great deal of her time basking in it, so her skin is lightly sunkissed. As a result of this, she has a few freckles along the bridge of her nose and slightly below her eyes, as well as a beauty mark or two on her shoulders. She makes no attempt to hide them. Most of her clothing is rather revealing, though she blames it on the heat and her occupation. Climbing on top of machina, or under them, requires a great deal of mobility, so she likes to keep her legs and arms free of loose fabrics. Her clothing of choice is usually a cropped top that reveals her midriff, as well as short shorts with a belt around her waist. A pouch is usually attached to the belt, and it holds all of her tools and accessories. Her feet are protected with worn steel-toed boots made out of soft leather. They've grown so old that the top has grown a bit slouchy and the laces are tattered and torn. To protect her hands, and to keep them from getting cut or too greasy, she wears fingerless gloves fashioned out of the same sort of soft leather. On top of her head, she wears a pair of goggles that she uses to protect her eyes when working with any sort of machina. When not in use, they rest on top of her pink head. However, this is simply her work attire, and though she often can be seen in it, it's not all that she prefers. Amtal is rather proud of her body, so when she dresses casually, it's usually in flowing fabrics and styles that show off her physique. One of her favorite outfits to walk around town in is a crimson crop top with a long skirt that hangs from her hips. The skirt is crimson with golden accents, and slits going up both sides. It is held up with a thick leather belt. Another dress she likes to wear, and is probably the most feminine she gets, is a coral pink dress with a high collar and light yellow trim that resembles a modern day Chinese qipao. Both of these outfits she pairs with long boots, either knee-length or even thigh-length. PERSONALITY It isn't easy knowing that most people already hate you before they know you. These issues are the kinds of things the Al Bhed have to deal with. Throughout her life, she has been discriminated against, though she has never let it get her down. Amtal is tough and doesn't let much get to her. She'd by lying though, if she said it never bothers her. This usually leads her to be aggressive and sometimes downright mean. Especially if someone is being rude to someone she cares about. Amtal is loyal and sometimes overly protective. As an older sister, it just comes naturally. Amtal works hard to make a living and to make her life run as smoothly as possible. She rolls with the punches and can adapt to most situations that are thrown at her. Her resourceful nature comes in handy because she can make something out of almost anything, and she finds creative ways to do things or get around problems. There isn't ever a roadblock that intimidates her or makes her give up. She's stubborn in that once she sets her mind to something, she will not give up. Amtal can be a bossy and slightly overbearing individual. Her poor brother is usually the only one who sees this side of her. Amtal is not ashamed to steal and she's a pretty sneaky person. She feels the world owes her that much, at least. To be constantly shit on, only to have a hard time making a living. Most of the people she sneaks parts away from don't know a thing or two about machina. The only way she can make a living is by stealing the parts necessary to help others. HISTORY Life is full of ups and downs. Amtal has surely faced her fair share of troubles in life. She was born the eldest of five children. She doesn't remember much of her life before her siblings were born. Once she had siblings, she could remember playing with them all day. She was especially close to the oldest boy, Edrick. The two enjoyed learning about Machina, and their father would let them help repair the ship that they lived on. When her mother was busy with other duties, Amtal took it upon herself to babysit the others, and looking back on it, she was probably quite bossy and demanding, maybe even a little mean if one of them touched something they weren't supposed to. Those were the days... When everything was still innocent and their family was happy. The day Sin came was when a lot of lives were ruined. Sin caused chaos and wrecked havoc among Spira. He tore through cities and shattered homes. Including the boat that Amtal and her family lived on. Her family was ripped apart and was never the same. She tries to suppress memories from that day. It was just too awful. She can vividly remember seeing the wreckage of her home, pieces of metal, gears and springs floating to the surface. Explosions erupted from the engines and made the water a death bed for her parents. She somehow was clinging to Edrick's arm, holding fast and making sure he didn't get separated. Somehow, she was able to make it to the water's surface, where she finally passed out. When she woke up, Edrick was in a bed next to her. Whether he was sleeping, passed out, or dead, she didn't know. She couldn't tell. He looked like all three. His head was wrapped in a bandage that managed to cover his eye as well. Red started to seep through the bandages. The wound was still very fresh. Her head was pounding and her vision started growing blurry again, but she caught sight of a woman near them, preparing another bandage for her brother. The look on the woman's face was one she would never forget. Disgust. Then her world went black again. Physically, the recovery time was fast. Amtal suffered from some scrapes and bruises, though she did manage to get a nasty cut on her shoulder where she still has a light pink scar. Every day that the two got better, the woman reminded them of what scum they were and that she was only being "pleasant" because they were children and she saw what Sin did to their ship. She was on shore when she saw it, but she ran away to safety when she realized what was happening. The only reason she went back was to check the shore for anything salvageable. What she found were the two Al Bhed children, nearly mangled to death. Her pity only surfaced because they were children, but when she found out they were Al Bhed, she became very bitter. When Amtal had finished healing but Edrick had not, she was very mean to Amtal. Edrick never noticed, or at least Amtal thought so, because he was still very injured, but she suffered a lot of emotional abuse because of this woman. When Edrick was healed up and able to walk, the woman cast them out. Shunned them from her home. Left them on the streets with nowhere to go. It was only natural for Amtal to steal things to help herself and her brother live. The two got by, but it was far from easy. They traveled from city to city as vagabonds with nowhere to go, nowhere to really call home. Eventually, the two found solace in Luca, where they set up their own shop. Whatever Al Bhed they'd encounter, they'd ask to trade certain machina parts and maybe even offer to fix up what they had. Amtal was majorly into repairing machina, and for a while it helped bring in some money. Now, at twenty-three years of age, she still faces prejudices in her life, though she has learned to stay strong about it. Sometimes she gets in trouble because of her catty tongue, but it's a fun life, for the most part. Traveling between Luca and Mi'ihen Highroad is quite fun. Though sometimes she'll travel all the way down to the Moonflow because she freaking loves shoopufs. ROLEPLAY SAMPLE The long trek to the Moonflow was well worth it. Who didn't love the gentle giant creatures called Shoopufs, who let people ride on their backs without a care? Then there were the Hypello, the frog-like people with the silly accents. They always made Amtal laugh. It was hard to take them seriously. "Ride ze shoopuf?" they'd ask. Though Amtal was not a native speaker of Spiran, she'd picked up some clues here and there to tell that the Hypello were butchering their language. Sometimes Amtal would play along with them. "Yesh, I wants to ride ze shoopuf!" Laughter erupted from the woman, though the onlookers were probably shaking their head at her. Once on the shoopuf, Amtal rest on the side of the large saddle. Her head rest on the palm of her hand, which was propped up on her elbow. A soft sigh escaped her lips. Beneath these waters were the remnants of a great machina city. The Al Bhed had the ability to create great things for Spira. Things that would help advance their life ways! But almost everyone she ran into hated her the moment they saw what she was. Under her breath, she sighed in her native Al Bhed, "Good riddance to them all." Her green-swirled eyes couldn't help but stare at the ruins beneath the water. She had no real destination to go to today. Her entire day had been spent traveling from the North to the South of the Moonflow. Truthfully, she just wanted to stare at that ancient city. If only Yevon had the mind to see how beautiful machina could be. But instead, he made Spira hate the Al Bhed, hate their machina. If only everyone could just get along. If only Sin hadn't destroyed her home. If only... ABILITIES • Steal: A thief uses evasive movement to approach someone undetected.
