| He left fairly early from Cross’ place after he had acquired all of his things and checked to ensure they were all in place. He was going to head straight for the docks and check the times for boats but had decided to visit the temple one last time before he left. He hadn’t gone in; he was going to just simply stand at it and offer a slight prayer before he headed out. That was the idea anyway, up until there was quite a commotion going on outside of the temple with a group of people crowding one of the priests that stepped outside. ”What’s going on?” He had ended up asking on of the people.
It was the Crusaders, a small bad of them was left to fend off a Sin Spawn back in Macalania Woods. It was a troubling fact because there were so few of them in the small band and if the Sin Spawn wasn’t taken care of, Sin would eventually return for it. With it being so close to the city of Bevelle, that was something that everyone wanted to avoid. He asked for directions then and there before he took off in the direction of the woods in hopes of being able to lend a hand. Even if he could just heal some of the crusaders to keep them fighting strong than he would have been some form of help.
That was how he ended up in Maclania Woods on his own and how he inevitably learned that the woods wasn’t exactly safe with or without Sin Spawn lurking around. Fiends inhabited the woods and some of which he was unfamiliar with. He straight out avoided the fiends the best he could. He would be of no use to the crusaders if he was delayed repeatedly in his attempt to reach them, then they could all be dead before he could help. His gaze dropped to the main path where a figure sat slouched against a rock and unmoving. He jumped down off the beaten path and hurried over to the downed crusader. ”Hey, you okay?” He barely got a response.
Barely a response was a response nevertheless, and he quickly stood up and focused his power. Light enveloped the Crusader as Lezard use his White Magics to heal the man and regenerate his energy some. The crusader stood up, a little worse for ware but not teetering on death, ”Which way are the others?” He questioned and the crusader pointed off in a direction he had last seen them. He gave his nod of thanks and continued forward. He wasn’t running. Running made too much noise and he was trying not to draw attention to him as much as possible. If anything did cross his path that he couldn’t get away from, he could simply summon Ifrit and have the Aeon take care of it… hopefully.

| It was still early in the morning when there was a loud knocking on the door causing her to leave her room and check to see who was trying to disturb her peace. If it was that idiot man again, she was going to really kill him for being annoying since she had allowed him to stay at her home. There was nothing more she needed to do! And yet, there was still someone banging on her door in a panicked fashion. The pink haired sorceress opened the door with a rather abrasive tone until she got a good look at the person and he explained why he was around.
The Crusaders were essentially warriors for the church, protecting the people of Spira with their lives, at the same time they weren't directly a part of the church. These men and women dedicated themselves to wanting to end Sin's tyranny so people wouldn't have to live in fear. The young woman was very familiar with the group since her father was among their ranks, and her association seemed to be the reason one would visit her.
Apparently, there had been Sin Spawns located in the forest not far from town. Maclania Woods was a dangerous place, but it was of no threat to Bevelle nor was the fact it had devilish monsters within in. The problem arose from the fact Sin Spawn called for the creature and that meant there was a chance Sin would appear if they were left alive. Bevelle was fortified and protected but it wasn't strong enough to withstand Sin attacking the city directly. Constantina didn't need her father's name being tossed out as if it would win her favor; the fact Sin might come because of those things was reason enough to leave her home to go front those abominations.
She didn't want to repeat the feelings of her childhood.
The two set off rather quickly for the forest. The knight was quick to attack anything that attempted to get in their way while the black mage finished it off with magic. This wasn't the first time she had done something like this; Sin Spawn were notorious for appearing places they had no business being. They were rather deep in the forest when she spotted the lanky man that kept running into her, doing something he claimed he didn't wish to do.
"Good, a healer!"
"His name is Lezard Rio."
"And a friend of Cross? We are in luck."
"Friend? Ha! Simply because I know his name does not make us friends. We just have bad luck encountering each other much too often," she explained. "Never mind him. Keep leading the way otherwise we will be too late and the others will surely perish."
The knight realized how trivial the conversation was and nodded before he did as instructed. The woman didn't bother to look at him or the man he was healing. Her concerns were which Crusaders she would find mangled or dead ahead. Lezard was of no concern to her.

| Lezard flinched when he heard a voice break through the otherwise quiet woods while he was healing a second crusader he had stumbled across. He didn’t know how many there was supposed to be but he knew it hadn’t been an entire army full of them. He was a bit surprised when he glanced up to see who spoke that he also heard Cross’ voice as well. It would seem that the two of them were destined to keep running into one another as long as he stayed in Bevelle. He shook his head and finished healing the crusader before he helped the male to his feet and directed him to head back to Bevelle. His healing powers weren’t the most powerful, he could only help the man so much. He would need to rest for a few days before he reached one hundred percent but Lezard could get him back on his feet at the very least.
He started off again and trailed behind Cross and her companion quite a ways back. The forest seemed far darker than it should have been given the time of day; almost like they were walking through a darkened forest only lit by light from a moon rather than morning sun. The area seemed to block much of the sunlight, making it all the more plausible that a fiend could be lurking anywhere in the area and just simply waiting to pounce upon unsuspecting victims. Now that he knew there were people like Cross lurking around the forest, he didn’t feel it so necessary to creep about the forest as quiet as possible, and instead attempted to maintain swift feet to follow the two other fighters.
He could hear screams and knew that he had to be getting closer to where the remaining crusaders likely were. Sure enough, when they found the area (Lezard coming upon the scene several seconds later). The creature was… a bit bigger than Lezard would have hoped. It resembled a science experiment between a cockroach and a centipede gone horribly wrong. Two massive shell looking arms were stretched out to its sides; with his body resembling some sort of hard hide or shell. It’s head looked small compared to it’s massive body and was red. What he could only assume was an abdomen looked to be another mouth of some sorts but was clutching a dark glowing sphere.
The remaining crusaders looked spent and injured, two of them hanging back while the remaining one was doing his best to protect the other two despite the certainty that the three wouldn’t last without aid. He ran toward the three crusaders and stopped halfway toward the group before he turned and faced the sinspawn. He pointed his staff toward it and focused. Come on… you can do it… He never truly mastered ‘Ruin’, the only defensive spell he had at his disposal. It wasn’t a powerful spell, nothing like what Cross could dish out with her black magic. The tip of his staff glowed for a moment before a small holy light erupted from it and careened at the sinspawn. The spell smacked into its torso, and while there was no real physical damage that seemed to happen, it did seem to be enough to get him noticed.

| He was following, but for once she didn't mind; for once, he could probably be helpful for what awaited ahead. There were bound to be more Crusaders injured and they would need someone to heal them. Her arcane magic could do many things but it couldn't mend bones or close cuts. Still, she didn't have time to baby him or the Crusader she was journeying with. There were people in danger and those people weren't the Crusaders; they were the idiots that willingly risked their lives.
They finally hit a clearing when she heard a disturbing cry that made her stop walking and actually sprint ahead. She left the other two behind just to stumble upon the large grotesque looking monster. She took her place beside the other Crusader and narrowed her eyes. "I see you're still always almost dying," she commented rudely to the older gentleman.
He looked surprised to see her at first but smirked seconds later as they stood side by side. Honestly, he was the absolute worst father since he seemed to be in bad situations more than a few times and required assistance. Her eyes shifted back towards the men behind her; Lezard would likely tend to them. Meanwhile, Cross would work with the two Crusaders to keep them all safe. At least, she assumed that was the plan.
"Berate me once this thing is dead."
"Hmph. Gladly," she mocked him before standing up straight and holding out both of her hands. "Oh howling winds from up above. Strike down my enemies. Thunder!"
While her usual spells didn't require words, the longer the change the more powerful the spell. Even with the extra boost of energy, it didn't look like the creature took much danger. Cross growled slightly under her breath; she would have to step up her game at this rate!
A small dark spark hit the creature in the chest and her eyes shifted behind her again at Lezard. Whatever spell he cast seemed to make the creature direct its attentions at him. One of its tentacle like arms went towards him and she quickly counted with a fire spell to keep the thing at bay. "Idiot, don't do something that will get you and them killed," she barked as the two Crusaders charged the beast and attempted to pierce its armor like skin but failed. How many idiots was she going to be responsible for today?!

| Mentally, Lezard made note of the thunder spell that Cross used; which gave him an assessment of her abilities: water, and thunder. The Thunder spell didn’t do much better than what Lezard’s Ruin did; but his spell did get the monster to focus on Lezard and away from the black mage. Honestly, if they were up against a creature that was resistant to all magic, then she wasn’t in any condition to toss out spells either and draw its attention. He could see her being much use in a fight when it came to hand-to-hand combat. She berated him for drawing the monster’s attention and the two crusaders launched forward.
”Last I checked, you aren’t my Guardian; perhaps you shouldn’t concern yourself with my well being and while it’s focus isn’t directed at you, try a different spell in hopes it more effective. I can heal people, but if the only power hitter here, that being you, is decommissioned from an ineffective attack resulting in a counter that kills you, no amount of healing on my part will save anyone.” Drawing the monster’s attention would allow her the freedom to try something else and eventually it should stick. He couldn’t simply spam cure on people either. It was a powerful spell, on that took a lot of his energy. He would need time to gather his wits after each of its uses and in a defensive fight that required multiple uses of it, they would essentially be screwed.
The crusaders were having a hard time being effective with their weapons due to the natural armor the monster’s hide presented with them. It didn’t have true arms with hands, but had large flaps that it could swing around, or when necessary, guard a more vulnerable section of its body. Lezard watched for a moment and scanned the monster’s form, looking for possible weak points. He broke away from the group, separating himself from the others focused another Ruin spell. It didn’t seem effective all that much, but it had drawn his attention and if he could keep its attention on him every time Cross attacked it, then it would give her the freedom to experiment with whatever arsenal she had until she found something that was effective.
He focused his energy once more and tried to aim for what he assumed to be the head of the beast. The tip of his staff glowed once more with the holy light of white magic before the small ball of light burst from his staff, arched across the field, and smacked into the top of the body. It’s head lurched back a little; a sure sign that it was more effective then hitting the beast in the torso… and more irritating to the fiend as well. ’Hmm… That could work.’

| He was saying useless things and all she wanted to do was strike him down with lightning. After she finished this battle, she was going to beat the idiot herself! It wasn’t her job to protect Lezard, her father, or the men under him but she was here doing it so it was best not to question her act of kindness but to revel in it before she turned her violence against them! While there was no time to beat the idiot, she felt all the temptation to ignore the Sin Spawn and murder him.
“Ugh! Where is your stupid weak spot,” she screamed in her displaced rage. Its body was hard and this arms protected its body the moment the Crusaders attempted to attack it. The monster looked impenetrable but then there was its head. The head looked rather weak when she thought about it. It was small and awkward looking and the flesh upon its face didn’t look as rough as the rest of the body.
“Water!”
Cross held her hand up as a water ball formed in it. Tossing the ball, it flew towards its body but just like the ball that she used to attack Lezard, at the last second the ball flew upwards and hit the creature with such force it sent it upward for a moment. The monster landed on its back as the cocky woman smirked and place her hand on her hip. “Ha!” she laughed smugly. “Aim for its head! That is the monster’s weak point!” She was barking orders but the two men had no problems listening to her after the display. Both of their swords started to glow different colors as they attacked its head while it was down.
It seemed like it should have been over the moment its head exploded into chunks, but its body seemed to swipe both men and throw them into the odd looking trees this forest was known for. “What?!” she growled. The monster got back to its feet as Cross tilted her head in anger. “Truly you are an abomination,” she mumbled as she shook her head. The normal attacks weren’t going to work. Her eyes closed as the two men were slow to get up. She had to focus herself. A simple and quick spell wouldn’t do. She had to tap into her real power.
“Focus. Focus. Focus. Focus,” she chanted silently to herself as she stood there defenseless for a moment. She needed a moment to clear he head.

| Lezard stood back and out of the fight the moment the monster was knocked onto its back and the crusaders were given free reign of the monster’s head. After a few attacks there as the unmistakable squishing sound as the head of the creature seemed to burst and for a brief moment Lezard could hope that the battle was over and they would be safe for now. That was until the creature sideswiped the crusaders and smashed them into the crystalline trees that surrounded the area. It started to get back up and he glanced over to Cross who was now standing by herself. He wasn’t sure what she was doing but it looked like it took concentration and as the Sinspawn balanced itself back up onto it’s feet. Where the head had been was now a greyed out faded stump. Well… at least he had thought it was the head but seeing how there was nothing there with it still being alive and moving around, he was inclined to think it wasn’t the head or it simply didn’t’ need a head to function. Such a lovely thought really.
He concentrated and tried to pull out another Ruin spell but it seemed to peter off a couple of feet in front of him and smack into the ground. ’Well, that’s not good.’ He glanced down at his staff and decided now was as good as time as any to do his first summoning. He lifted up his staff, spun it around, and captured it in bow hands as he concentrated. The area around him became much like a cyclone as the air spiraled around his form. ”Spirits, heed my call.” The tip of his staff burst into a flame as if it were a raging torch. Holy light surrounded Lezard and drew out the symbols of Yevon.
The Sinspawn charged forward and headed straight for the Black Mage until the ground started to tremble and gave it reason for pause. A growing shake surrounded the area until it was a full blown earthquake, but the moment it reached such a level, it stopped and the ground fell still.. The land between Lezard and the Sinspawn suddenly erupted much like a volcano and a creature sored up from the deep reaches of Spira where hellfire eternally burns. The great beast of fire dropped upon the battle field and roared out, drawing the attention of the Sinspawn.
”Whoa…” He should have called Ifrit sooner maybe. The beast erupted fire from it’s mouth and formed it into a large sphere as it prepared to unleash it’s meteorstrike. Once formed it smacked one of it’s large hands against it and hurled it at the sinspawn. The attack was enough to knock it back a few feet from where it stood and to tick it off further. ”Crusaders, stay away from the SinSpawn. Ifrit’s attacks are violent.” He called out to them. The last thing he needed was for his Aeon to roast a few crusaders while it dealt hwith a SinSpawn.

| Her protection was down on the ground when she started to go into a trance. Cross ignored the fact she was in battle with a creature that loss its head and was looking to harm those responsible. Slowly, the world seemed to disappear around her until there was nothing but her and the vast darkness around her. As the darkness engulfed her body, she wrapped her arms around her body as a source of comfort before she was swallowed completely.
Instantly, her eyes opened completely void of color as the darkness was in seemed to be visible for a moment. The woman blinked a few time to make reality visible as her eyes once again came into view. The monster was charging her by this time and she was almost sure to die though Cross didn't react. She reached out with her hand as if to stop it when the ground started to shake and a crater opened between her and the Sin Spawn, essentially stopping it.
The great Ifrit appeared, as heat and lava erupted from the ground. The summoned beast attacked and threw back the monster but once again it got up as if it couldn't feel its injuries. She heard Lezard's warns though they weren't directed at her. It didn't matter anyways. She took a step forward as she locked her sights onto the monster.
"¡ɐɹɐzzᴉlq 'ʍolq spuᴉʍ ʎɔI!"
Her words sounded strange for a moment as the temperature dropped around them. The temperatures around the monster dropped even faster before little snowflakes started to fall before ice shards became to spring from the ground. Eventually they sprang from its feet and rose up its body until it was encased in a large icy prison.
"Quick! While it can't move, let's finish it off!" she shouted at the others. She wasn't looking to prolong this battle and had trapped it in ice so they could use the ice to help break though it's tough outer shell.

| Did her spells get stronger? That what it seemed like as a more powerful spell sprung up from the ground and clashed into the Sinspawn and for moments it seemed to freeze in its spot. Cross called out for the everyone to finish the spawn of sin off. ”Everyone stand back! Ifrit’s power just fluctuated. It’s going to—“ He was cut off as Ifrit roared out, two large spheres of fire erupted from both arms and were flung toward the sinspawn. Flames surrounded the sinspawn and Ifrit leapt into the air forming a large sphere from its mouth and thrust down to increase the inferno. A cyclone of hellfire swallowed the giant fiend whole intense winds of heat circled around the area. Ifrit landed on the ground and ripped off a large portion of the earth before it flung it into the burning inferno. It seemed to give one final eruption and the Sinspawn twitched, shrieked, and seemed to burst into ash.
Ifrit gave one final roar before it disappeared from the battlefield. Lezard collapsed down on his knees afterwards in exhaustion. He didn’t think Ifrit would have been that powerful. He knew they were strong but he also knew the power to stop Sin came from the Final Summoning. If Ifrit was one of the weaker Aeons in the mix and that wasn’t enough to defeat Sin; he couldn’t even imagine what the Final Summoning would be like. He chuckled lightly to himself before he pushed himself up on his feet and started toward the small group of misfit fighters. ”Everyone okay? Does anyone need healing? I think I have enough in me to heal one of you. The Sinspawn may be defeated, but there are still fiends in the woods, I suggest we hurry back to Bevelle.” He offered. He couldn’t heal everyone there but he could at least get the most wounded person if it was needed. It looked like they managed to get through the battle without anyone dying.

| It was over!
The Sin Spawn turned into black dust and disappeared; Bevelle would avoid Sin's arrive for now. Cross sighed heavily as she felt a little less worried. The huge summon beast that had came to aid them in battle disappeared back as pyreflies seemed to scatter. Once again, the world was normal and she could go back home without worrying about useless things. Still, she couldn't exactly leave either.
The man who called for her was limping towards her along with the younger man he sent off to fetch her. On top of that, there were the men that were with Lezard who had been harmed before they arrived. She technically needed to stick around for a few more moments rather than abandon them all; besides, she did owe Lezard thanks for his assistance.
Her blue eyes shifted towards the idiot who was on the ground, breathing hard. It seemed he wasn't used to the energy it took to summon a monster. She raised a brow as she watched him struggle to get up and worry about others. "Those two are injured," she said pointing at the men. Honestly, a fiend or two appearing wouldn't be a big deal. She wasn't tired and her mind was still in battle mode. With a few words, she could destroy any fiend that dared to approach the group. "Help them all and I shall make sure to keep everyone safe," she commanded again.
It took a few moments, but everyone was healed to the point they could travel. Cross took the lead and slowly ventured back to the city. Any time a fiend approached, she stuck it down with a rather powerful lightning bolt. Lezard actually was faster than the half injured men but he still followed behind her. "Is that your first time fighting one?" she asked casually as she continued to walk ahead without looking back. "They do not all look like that. However, they are all a nuisance. And this world is just brimming with them."
The Crusaders took care of Sin Spawn and tried to help people in general but they weren't invincible or even that great at taking care of such monsters. They lost men and recruited inexperienced personnel all the time because all it took to join their rankings was passion.
"You did not do too bad, though you need a lot more training if summon Ifrit takes so much out of you."
Long ago, second tier spells made her feel weak but she conditioned herself to be able to use them just as easily first tier so long as she cleared her mind but she still had so far to go since she still couldn't perform advance level spells. It would be years before she was rate at this rate.

| He directed his efforts toward two crusaders and worked on healing them so that they would all be able to walk out of the woods and get back to Bevelle together. When he was done he felt like he needed to take a long nap when he got back and when he was done, he allowed Cross to lead them through the woods and take care of the random fiends that got in their paths. Lezard had done his best healing what he could from the crusaders but he wasn’t perfect in the arts of healing and all he could do is ensure most discomfort was gone and that they were able to carry themselves on their own; so Lezard was able to keep up with Cross while the others trailed behind them. He didn’t attempt to throw out a Ruin spell with a fiend came about, and decided to conserve his energy in the event that he might be forced to use another healing spell on Cross if she got injured.
”Yeah…” He answered when she asked if it was the first time fighting a sinspawn. That had actually been his first time fighting in general unless you counted being bullied. ”That’s why Sin needs to be destroyed, so the world isn’t filled with them.” He rubbed at his face, a tired expression coming across his features as he thought about the idea of coming across more sinspawn. He really needed to prep for another occurrence; there was no telling if Ifrit would be enough to stop the next one.
”Thanks… I’ll be fine. I’ve never summoned Ifrit until then. Can’t say I’m conditioned to it yet. I’ve never been in a fight before.” He really needed to get more battle experience but the only way to do that would be to go out killing fiends; something he really couldn’t risk without another person there to watch his back in the event that he screwed something up. ”I didn’t know you could do some those advanced spells. You’re even more powerful than I had originally thought.” Which was saying something because he thought she was indeed powerful to begin with.

| "If you lock yourself away for a few years and practice, you could truly control Ifrit," she suggested. Controlling a summon beast seemed simply and advanced level spell and they simply required time for the body to adjust to using so much energy. Her body had been conditioned amounts of energy since she trained herself vigorously for the last ten years.
"Though, you do not seem like the type looking to master one summon since there are so many you must tame. Thus is the life of a Summoner."
She shrugged it all away. Another fiend appeared and she banished it with a lightning spell. Her head tilted back as she glanced at him when he complimented her skills. Cross smirked. "Ha. These spells are not advanced." While she was proficient at second tier magic, advance spells lied in the third tier and she was far less successful with them. The pink haired woman shook her head as her hand rested against the temples of her skull.
"I have yet to master true magic. It requires vast amounts of concentration and… a bit of experimentation."
Her voice turned dark as she chuckled to herself. To be able to get to the next level of skills, she would need to needed to unlock the right words and somewhat test such words on a willing victim. While fiends were probably logical, if the words weren't correct she could get hurt. A willing human was ideal for her own safety but people weren't lining up to sacrifice their lives for her arcane arts.
Cross shook her head again; but she understood her road to getting truly strong would be long and arduous. Anything truly worth having always required so much work. "My powers are strong enough to banish something as simple as a Sin Spawn, but it is not something that would affect the abomination those things originate from. Something like Ifrit shall always be stronger than any spell I could cast," she said idly. "You should feel happy to have such power."

| If the world would give a summoner the time necessary to master summoning Aeons, then he would do so; but he imagined that all summoners dealt with the difficulty of summoning when they first acquired. The pilgrimage was designed to strengthen their spirits to prepare for the Final Summoning, it was the journey itself that would condition them to tame the beasts with mastery. Locking himself away would take longer; forcing himself to journey on would force his mind to condition itself. Hiding away would be safer; journeying would lead to inevitable death; whether he finished the pilgrimage or not. When he complimented her mastery of the dark arts, she brushed it off claiming the spells she used were no advanced. He wouldn’t know; but they did end up being quite powerful either way.
”There are fiends that repel black magic. I imagine there are Sinspawn that do the same as well. No one can truly fight alone. A group needs someone for every situation.” He has read up on enough fiends to know a few of the types that repelled magic back at the user. Those particular nasties required a quick slice of a sword or some other weapon to take them down. If he couldn’t use Ruin, Ifrit always had high physical power behind its form that it could use. He was fortunate to have the Aeon; that much is for certain. ”I am.. happy to have the power, but I also know that I can become stronger with each Aeon. That is why I’m going to Besaid next. The Aeon that is most easiest to wield is there; and it will help condition me for the journey ahead.” He wasn’t sure what the Aeon was, but he knew that it was said most summoners started there because it was easy to call forth. A summoner didn’t feel completely tapped out on their psych from calling that Aeon into the battlefield.
”But if you are so eager to build strength; isn’t the best way to perfect the arts to use them in practice? I imagine using them to attack people in the city that annoy you doesn’t allow a whole lot of room to test the potential of your spells. It’s said to believe that great power is truly unlocked during a time of desperation.” A time where the body knew it needed to do something or it would perish. There were plenty of tales Lezard had heard from travelers that ended up in the temple.

| He attempted to brush off her powers and her ability to care for herself by reminding her that there were things in this world resistant to magic. There were also things resistant to physical attacks. There were all types of monsters and fiends that lurked in this world but she wasn't looking to encounter each one. "Then I will not be helping dispatch that creature since my magic would be useless," she replied back. After all, she didn't go traveling the world to kill Sin Spawns. It was something Crusaders did and that wasn't the path she chose.
"Only an idiot goes traveling the world looking for death in a battle," she said much louder so the wounded men could hear her. "Saving the lives of others but unable to save his own life."
She did not care for her father's work but that was out of resentment for what happened to her mother. As a child, she was proud to call her father a hero but that all changed the day Sin attacked their village. After that day, her father was just another man and she refused to be weak and unable to protect herself.
They were almost to town when he suggested the best way for her to practice her skills was to travel. The idea of traveling was not appealing since she would have to cross the ocean and that was always a painful task. Shaking her head, she continued to listen to him just to stop. Cross turned around and looked at the man and eyed him questionably. "You mean to tell me, you picked Ifrit yet there was a much easier creature to tame and you thought it was best to ignore it?" she asked. Cross shook her head; every time she gained an ounce of respect for him then he would reveal his idiotic.
"I am not looking to nearly die to unlock my potential. I am no masochist. If anything, I might be a bit of a sadist," she replied with a smirk as they finally made it back to Bevelle. She stopped on the bridge and folded her arms as the injured men limped past her. "I also do not spend my time attacking people in the city or else the Crusaders would be looking to stop me rather than ask me to help in their missions. I am strong, but I am not strong enough. Besides, if I am near the brink of death and still not powerful enough, what am I to do then? I am not looking to face a needless death."

| She seemed to miss the point entirely that he was trying to get at when he mentioned the fiends that were anti-magic. Regardless, he just let it be as another useless thing that would end up shifting into an argument if he tried to explain himself further. He was starting to learn it was a lot easier just to allow Cross to have the final word on almost everything just so she felt better about whatever conversation or debate that was going on. Her annoyance on the matter seemed more directed at the Crusaders than at him this time; however, as she seemed to make a point of voicing her thoughts loud enough for them to hear it. He recalled her mentioning that she knew a Crusader and wondered if she hated the fact that whoever it was became one.
When he explained what Besaid would offer she seemed to take him gaining Ifrit as an idiotic move. For a moment he stared at her as if she were an idiot herself when she seemed to forget a very important fact on the matter. ”I was living in Kilika. I wasn’t ignoring it. In case you forgot from the time I asked you to become one to this moment, I don’t have a guardian, how would I have defended myself without an Aeon when traveling to another temple? Not only that, I didn’t have the money to pay for the fare for the boat. I only received the money after I became a summoner.” Summoners were often supported by many means, including financially. Everyone wanted a Calm, if they could help a summoner bring it, then they would do it. They don’t, however, support a potential summoner. Only after they proved themselves.
She didn’t care for the idea of unlocking potential through means of actual field practice or the possibility of forcing the body to defend itself when it was brought into a dire situation. Adrenaline had a funny way of strengthening people temporarily, he imagined it would work on spells too if the circumstances were correct. ”Do what a sane person would do then: have a healer on hand. “ He shrugged and glanced down to the ground as they continued walking. He felt like the conversation was teetering back in the direction of where it had gone before she tossed him in the ocean so he decided to brush the topic away before it could escalate.
